Happy Birthday In Heaven, Doug!
Douglas Alan Jakubowski
June 26,1963 - December 6, 2012
Today is my brother Doug's birthday. If he'd lived he would be 54 today.
I was on swim team with my brothers when we were little kids and Doug carried that athleticism over to football and lacrosse in high school. We weren't close as children, but became friends when we were in our 30s. In the 1990s the rest of my family had moved to Florida and Doug and I were both single and lived just a few hours apart. He was in Annapolis, MD working as a contract electrical engineer for the Navy, and I was working at a church in New Castle, DE. I believe this was the happiest time of his life-- He loved his job, had a great house, and good friends. I always looked forward to visiting him for the holidays, our birthdays, and sometimes just to hang out.
Doug was a very laid back person, personality-wise a 'phlegmatic'. He had a gentle, kind and generous heart, loved his family, animals, and had a great sense of humor. Our get togethers usually involved a good meal or two, home-cooked or at our favorite Asian place at the Annapolis Mall, a trip to Sam's Club or Graul's grocery store, and sometimes a game of Trivial Pursuit, of which he claimed to always beat me (not)! Because Doug was a TV fanatic, he had ALL the channels, so I got to watch the Food Network whenever I visited, which was cool. :)
Once, when my budget was really tight while working at the church, Doug offered me $500 to spend on art supplies to encourage me to keep creating artwork. I treasure the one-on-one time I got to spend with him during that window of time before trouble came into his life, of which he never fully recovered.
One of the greatest things I'm looking forward to in heaven is being reunited with my family members-- healed, healthy, and whole. I love you, Doug, and can't wait to see you!
