Had he lived, today would have been my brother Doug's 51st birthday. I miss him terribly and wish we were celebrating with him here, now! This is one of my favorite photos of him and my brother John/Chris, taken around 1968. Soooo cute with those big blue eyes and long eyelashes! I have fond memories of the birthday parties my Mom threw for us when we were little. We sent out invitations to the neighborhood kids and Mom went all out with party decorations (matching plate, cups, napkins, hats), a special, homemade birthday cake, ice cream, games, gifts, toys and party favors to go home with all the kids. WOW!! When we were older, I would usually drive down to Maryland (from Delaware) for the weekend to celebrate with Doug. We'd go to Sam's Club and buy a decadent cheesecake or delicious birthday cake to share, which was a big treat for us! I wonder what birthdays are like in heaven? I can only imagine they're awesome, with Jesus being there and all... I imagine Doug partying today with my Dad and some of our other relatives and friends. I do see a few empty places at the table though, and Doug looking at them with gentle anticipation, awaiting our arrival. Love you, Doug!
This little visitor in our backyard was very quiet and graciously allowed us to take his picture (many times)!
Perhaps because pink and green are my favorite colors, these budding pink rhododendron in our yard melt my heart!
Thank you for landing on my blog! This a collection of photos, art, poems, thoughts, and other stuff on my creative journey since 2010.
