What a joy to meet Liz in Chesapeake, VA!

Liz Curtis Higgs

If you like historical fiction, I recommend one of my new favorite author's-- Liz Curtis Higgs. I recently finished her book, Mine Is The Night, and LOVED it! I went to her website and found she has another whole website devoted to her Scottish-themed books, www.MyScottishHeart.com. I had the absolute pleasure of hearing Liz speak in April at the "It's Good To Be Queen" Women's Conference at River Oak Church in Chesapeake, Virginia, AND got to meet her. It was such a blessing! She's just as fabulous in person as she comes across on her CDs and YouTube videos-- crazy-smart and crazy-fun! I love her, and look forward to reading more of her work! I highly recommend everything she does, and there's a LOT to choose from--nonfiction, historical fiction, video Bible studies, contemporary fiction, and children's books. A former "bad girl" herself, she wrote a cool series called Bad Girls of the Bible. Our local library has several of her materials, and yours might, too.  At the end of her Victorian Christmas novella A Wreath of Snow she shares a recipe for Scottish shortbread. Below is a copy of the recipe and a photo of the ones I made. This is THE BEST shortbread ever. Please try it yourself and see, and check out one of her books!

I LOVE her cover designs! (I read this book for free through Amazon Prime)

Her book, "It's Good to be Queen" was the theme of the conference. (I purchased the book on CD -- Liz is the narrator and it's such a pleasure to hear her speak!

POP ARTIST MICHAEL ALBERT

I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting really neat person and pop artist Michael Albert yesterday at a collage workshop he held at the Warren County Library. The variety, detail, and fun-factor of his work is amazing! He gave an awesome presentation about his life and art then all the participants created collages with materials he provided (for FREE)!  Check out Michael's website here. He speaks all over the country-- He may be coming to a library near YOU!  Don't miss it! :)
Below are just a few of the hundreds of collages Michael's created using cereal boxes and other cardboard packaging....

Louise used this photo on her homepage... It's ninth down on the left..... Thanks, Louise!!
Along with many others, I met best-selling author Louise Penny at RJ Julia Booksellers in Madison, CT last night!  What a treat!  RJ Julia's is the neatest, best bookstore I've ever been to in my whole life -- absolutely beautiful store with kind and friendly staff and a super-delicious cafe where I ate the best cupcake I've ever had in my whole life (made by La Rosticceria)!! If you're ever near Madison, CT, I encourage you to visit RJ Julia's (at least to have a cupcake) !!!

I learned about Louise Penny from children's book author, Eileen Spinelli. When Eileen heard I loved mysteries, she highly recommended her work....Thank you Eileen!!!  Louise Penny's is a brilliant author who's writing has touched me on many levels. I encourage you to read the books in order. And WOW...  Let me know if you do not come to love her writing, characters, and Louise herself, as I have!  Below is her latest book, THE BEAUTIFUL MYSTERY currently #2 on the NY Times best-seller list! While standing in line for her signature I met writer John Valeri who recently interviewed Louise for his Hartfod Books Examiner blog. A GREAT article and interview!! Click here to read John's article.

At a book-signing this past Saturday with (l-r) Jerry Spinelli, Eileen Spineli, Ted Lewin and Betsy Lewin
Special thanks to Kathy Temean and her blog for the heads-up about this booksigning with the Spinellis and the Lewins at Booktender's Secret Garden in Doylestown, PA.  I was expecting a HUGE crowd for these distinguished guests and was suprised that it was a relatively small affair. To my delight I got to ask all the questions I wanted and boy, was it a treat!
