A Shout Out to Homemakers!

“The homemaker has the ultimate career.
All other careers exist for one purpose only -
and that is to support the ultimate career. ”

C.S. Lewis

C.S. Lewis is one of my favorite authors. As a homemaker, I was greatly intrigued by this quote! I did some research and found that it was a paraphrase he made in a letter to a "Mrs Ashton" from Magdalene College, Oxford on March 16, 1955. The actual statement he made to her was this:
Picture

“I think I can understand that feeling about a housewife’s work being like that of Sisyphus (who was the stone rolling gentleman). But it is surely, in reality, the most important work in the world. What do ships, railways, mines, cars, government etc exist for except that people may be fed, warmed, and safe in their own homes? As Dr Johnson said, ‘To be happy at home is the end of all human endeavour’. (1st to be happy, to prepare for being happy in our own real Home hereafter: 2nd, in the meantime, to be happy in our houses.) We wage war in order to have peace, we work in order to have leisure, we produce food in order to eat it. So your job is the one for which all others exist.”

Wow-- I love C.S. Lewis!  For more about this quote, click here.

Let's hear it for homemakers!!

Sweet Potato Dinner Rolls
Recipe courtesy of Kathy at Beyond the Chicken Coup

I had some leftover sweet potatos in my fridge when this recipe arrived in my inbox.  Yowsa!
Kathy's look better than mine, but these were fun to make and delicious!  Click on this link for the recipe.
(I used half whole wheat / half all purpose flour)

You might have picked up on this... I love greeting cards. I save them, like for years. I have cards and letters from over thirty years ago, some of the most special of which are from when my husband and I were dating. When I was a poor college student I made my unsuspecting family members homemade greeting cards for Christmas one year... :o)  I love them!

I'm not sure why... Maybe because besides being a mini-piece of artwork-- that person was thoughtful enough to 1) take the time to select and purchase a card, 2) write something personal, 3) address and stamp it, 4) and mail it.  Big Stuff in our crazy-fast paced world!

Here's one of the cards I received last year, still sitting in my kitchen (among others)... from Susan, who gets more beautiful each year.  I love cards, and I love Susan!
