Spring seems so long ago now with the heat of summer here! Here's a couple shots I took recently in our yard. I continue to be surprised that when I 'zoom in', it's like entering another secret world. I take a lot of shots on our property throughout the year... I'm pretty sure when you 'zoom in' anywhere you'll find something beautiful...

![]() In addition to revisions on Fuzz N' Bunny story and illustrations, I'm preparing two large paper collages for the the juried "Mountain Art Show", Bernardsville, NJ. I have some new papers I'm working with and am excited to get working on them! We have two nests of baby wrens on our front porch - one in a birdhouse, the other atop a hanging plant. It's amazing to hear the babies' sweet chirping each day! I wonder how long this will last...?? :) One of my collages will be a single wren, and the other, larger collage is going to be of some ducks. We pass a house that has ducks in the yard almost every day. They all hang out together and each time they're doing something different! I hope I can capture some of the essence of wonder and beauty of these creatures. Here's the initial sketch for the wren. I attended my first NJ SCBWI Conference on June 4-5 at the Princeton Hyatt Regency hotel in Princeton, NJ. It was a beautiful setting and a great conference! Wonderful to meet so many helpful, creative people! I had my first portfolio review with Denise Cronin (VP, Art Directior, Viking Children's Books). She was extremely kind and gave me an outstanding critique on my first story and book Illustrations. Back to the drawing board, on many aspects, but with more clarity and direction now. Thanks again, Denise, for your expert advice! :) I highly recommend SCBWI to anyone wanting to learn more about any aspect of the children's book industry. Check out Kathy Temean's blog (http://kathytemean.wordpress.com/). Kathy is the Regional Advisor of NJ SCBWI... Her knowledge and experience are out-of-this-world and she updates her blog daily. ![]() The conference raffled several fundraiser prizes, and I was blessed to win two, one of which was the coveted and adorable albino alligator and autographed copy of Kristin Clark Venuti's "Leaving the Bellweathers"!! He's soooooo cute! |
